Meedan

Meedan is a global technology not-for-profit that builds software and programmatic initiatives to strengthen journalism, digital literacy, and accessibility of information online and off. We develop open-source tools for creating and sharing context on digital media through annotation, verification, archival, and translation. We use AI to contribute to these efforts through text similarity and matching claims via machine learning models, in order to identify similar pieces of content to better understand its prevalence. Alongside conducting original research about these machine learning models and applications, we enable the research of our community members by bringing multiple NGOs, academics, and journalists to collectively discuss industry issues via the Credibility Coalition and Content Moderation Project.
